Himalayan Salt Lamps

Himalayan salt lamps are made with Himalayan pink salt which is mined from the Himalayan foothills in the Punjab region of Pakistan. The salt which is mined in large slabs is carved into lamps and fitted with a light source. There are several health benefits to using a Himalayan salt lamp, which is the combined effect of the salt’s properties and the heat of the light source. Some of the benefits include improving the body’s respiratory function, reducing asthma attacks, reducing the stress levels and improving the overall mood.

Himalayan pink salt used in the making of the lamps is the purest form of salt on the planet, untouched by chemical toxins and pollutants.

What are Himalayan salt lamps?

Himalayan pink salt is obtained from the salt beds in the Himalayan foothills. These salt beds were covered in volcanic rock, ice and snow millions of years ago and have been preserved for all this time. When the salt is mined, it is completely pure.

The large slabs of salt are left unprocessed, and only hand washed. The slabs are cut to size and carved to make Himalayan salt lamps. The hollowed out centre of the lamp is the light chamber where a bulb or candle can be placed. The light radiates through the translucent walls of the Himalayan salt lamp emitting a rosy pink-orange glow all around.

Himalayan salt lamps purify the air by absorbing water vapour. The water vapour in the air contains contaminants like dust, pollen, fine pet hair, pollutants, smoke, mildew and so on. The Himalayan salt lamp draws in all these contaminants along with the water vapour and traps them in its walls. The heat from the lamp then evaporates the water sending clean vapour back into the air. In this way, Himalayan salt lamps also remove unpleasant odours from the air.

When the salt from the Himalayan salt lamp reacts to the heat of the light source, it sends out negatively charged ions. Negative ions serve a very important purpose in this electronic day and age that we live in. All our electronic gadgets including our laptops, tablets and smartphones send out positively charged ions in the form of electromagnetic radiation. These positive ions have an adverse effect on our bodies by zapping us of our energy, affecting our sleep and affecting our breathing.

Negatively charged ions from Himalayan salt lamps help to reduce positive ions in the air and decrease their harmful effects.

Health benefits of Himalayan salt lamps

Due to the hygroscopic nature of salt, Himalayan salt lamps attract water vapour and purify the air. The purified air reduces asthma attacks, allergy symptoms and improves respiratory function.

Himalayan salt lamps also:

  • Improve air quality
  • Increase energy levels
  • Improve sleep patterns
  • Improve mood
  • Bring down stress levels

Uses of Himalayan salt lamps

To enjoy the maximum benefit of Himalayan salt lamps, the lamps need to be placed in strategic positions. A large room may require more than one lamp placed in different corners and on the centre table. Placing Himalayan salt lamps next to televisions and computers help to neutralise some of the radiation emitted by these gadgets. Place a Himalayan salt lamp on your bedside table while sleeping to improve air quality and help you sleep better.

Himalayan salt lamps from PEAKSALTS come in a variety of shape, sizes and colours. From heart-shaped candle holders and fish-shaped electric lamps to natural and egg-shaped lamps and many more. Colours include white, pink and red.
